Comcast Acquires Social Networking Pioneer Plaxo

14 05 2008

Comcast and Plaxo Together as OneAh, I remember it like it was yesterday, when I first installed Plaxo on my computer.  Four years later, I must admit, I do not use Plaxo anymore, but I know plenty of people who do.  Plaxo was pioneering social networking when only us tech weenies knew about it.  It subsequently has blown up into a multi-billion dollar industry, and guess who wanted a piece?  Enter stage left. Comcast (CMCSA) in one fell swoop swallowed Plaxo whole and didn’t even chew.  So, what does this mean for the millions of Plaxo customers?  Well, for anyone who knows what (customer) service can be like with cable operators, you can only imagine how quickly the service could go south. What’s that you say? There is a silver lining?

Plaxo will remain an independent operation in Silicon Valley, reporting into Comcast Interactive Media, which is a division of Comcast that develops and operates Internet businesses focused on entertainment, information and communication. All of our 50 employees will continue to innovate on and grow both our networked address book service and our next-generation social network, Pulse.

Well folks, there you have it.  Another “successful” acquisition in Silicon Valley.  So long as Plaxo keep their numbers in the black, Comcast “hopefully” won’t be bothering them with their day-to-day operations. Let’s see what investors think of this during tomorrow trading session.

By the way, how badass is that logo? Coaxo FTW!
